Recently a site called RockYou was hacked and the 20 most commonly used passwords were published. Needless to say...the results are kind of depressing.

I thought people were more or less over the habit of creating braindead passwords but I guess not. I doubt anyone here would fess up to using dummy passwords but I'd like to think it's mostly people who aren't computer/internet-savvy that decide "123456" is a solid choice. Honestly, it's not even that fast to type - I can type my password faster than that, and it has three different types of characters!

Just a friendly reminder that a lot of people still aren't very good at this whole internet thing.

"1, 2, 3, 4, 5? That's amazing! I've got the same combination on my luggage!"

Mel Brooks new it before the WWW was even invented.

Some (most?) people just fail with computers...My professor today was trying to visit a page in class and spent 5 minutes looking for the home button...

I try to make my password completely random, like,a jumble of letters and numbers and such that don't even make sense..worked so far.

My theory on passwords are, it doesnt matter what it is, mine are very simple because once a hacker, keylogger can get it, it doesn't matter how complex it's built

To an extent that's correct, but a lot of worms will use standard crackign methods of "try a bunch of passwords". If your's can easily be created by combing different numbers and words from the alphabet, it's much easier to crack. Keyloggers are a big thing, but that's kinda like not locking your door because somebody can just break the window (or sneak inside when you're home).
