This game is on a Microtransaction business model that literally sells no competitive advantage. They only sell fun little trinkets and convenience of hero picking (they are on a free weekly rotation, and you can either purchase the ability to use them whenever, or just earn that right through the game's currency earned by playing).

In other words, it is FREE TO PLAY! You have no excuse not to at least check it out :)

If I recruit 10k people, I get airfare out to CA to design a champ for them ^^ smaller rewards exist, like little bits of Riot Points.

I'll play with you. I'm pretty sure my account name is Sabotage; But I signed up pretty early in beta testing, so my account might have been deleted or something.

Edit: Updated to release version last night, summoner name is still Sabotage, played 2 short games with bots as Ashe and Cho'something, was pretty fun. Picking decent items seemed a bit harder than in dota, since there wasn't just plain stats to stack like agi/str/int. Physical heroes could make good use of ability power and mana, and you had to pick up health/armor/magic resist items rather than just relying on some base stats to cover you. Runes/talent trees were funny, my baller +.5% crit and +.4% attack speed runes are gonna be some game changers. :P

In short, the differences between this and DotA...

LoL has:

+Lower knowledge cost to entry (Shorter learning curve)
+Better attitude of player base
+More Diverse roles of Champions (not just Carry/Support/Tank strictly)
+Better Graphics
+Smaller map
+OneClick Matchmaking to easily find games
+Persistent Elements that add a little without making lots of hours = lots of power
+Shorter Games (avg 30ish minutes rather than 45 or 50 for DotA)
+100% Free if you want it to be

-Less Champions currently (kind of a plus also though, less overwhelming to learn)
-Less Game Modes implemented currently (no AR, CD, RD, CM modes)
-Current lack of other features (Clan support, LAN support, No Replays, No Ladder)
-"Cutesy" Art style turns off some, personally I like it though

These are the elements that all stuck out to me. I really like everything about LoL, though I never played DotA until the LAN party.
Although there are Less champions, there are still a LOT. Just the ones available to non-paying or starting summoners is limited (about 8-10 on rotation).
And I also really like the art style. It may be a little cartoony, but it's not overwhelming and it looks really smooth.

I've been playing a bit the past few days. It is a fun game. The one thing that sort of annoys me coming from DotA is that sounds are really low quality so you really need to look, opposed to listen, to know what's going on. I'd say it's a lot better than Dota overall, if just for the item buying system alone.
